Do you know what’s awesome about living in Centretown? Hint: it’s in the name! Living in a central location provides you with an abundance of fun activities that are never too far away. Everything from the hills of Gatineau to the Canadian Tire Centre is within a short drive.
Many seasonal activities are starting with autumn approaching. Thankfully for Centretown residents, many of Ottawa’s best autumn activities are within a reasonable distance. We’ll be going over our top three fall activities so you’ll know what to do in Ottawa this fall!
Walk and Watch in Gatineau Park
Not only is this a fun fall activity in Ottawa, but it’s also free. Gatineau park is only a 20-minute drive from Centretown and it offers a staggering variety of activities. Your first stop should be at the Gatineau Park Visitor Centre in Chelsea.
From the Visitor Centre, your first stop will likely be walking through Chelsea. This picturesque little town is home to many cozy-yet-modern cafes, pizzerias, and confectionaries. Expect hot chocolates, cozy candles, and fresh veggies!
Your next stop should be Pink Lake. This beautiful body of water is home to a diverse body of animals, so wildlife watchers will appreciate the natural beauty of this lake. You’ll find a parking lot conveniently located at the site’s lookout point. Be sure to stop and gaze at the view before making your way around the lake’s trail.
Support Local Vendors at Lansdowne Farmers Market
Every Sunday, from 9 am to 3 pm until October 30th, you can enjoy the vibes of a local farmers market right near Centretown.
70+ artisans and farmers gather at Lansdowne Park to sell their delicious and fresh produce, homemade goodies and detailed crafts. Grab some friends to enjoy a Sunday morning of supporting local and then take a walk along the scenic Rideau Canal.
Spooky Nights at Saunders Farm
This fun fall event is a further drive, but that doesn’t take away its reputation as a classic Ottawa fall activity. This place is a great destination for Halloween lovers and anyone who appreciates a cup of fresh apple cider.
The most popular attraction at Saunders Farm is undoubtedly the haunted hayride. This spooky hayride takes you through the Farm’s haunted forest filled with spooks and scares. The hayride is one of many attractions they have at the Farm in October. There are theatre performances, games for the kids, and a tavern for the parents. There’s something for everyone here!
Watch the Leaves Fall From the Sky
Drive or bus to the Rockcliffe Airstrip, right beside the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum, to embark on Ottawa’s most exciting fall activity! Those brave enough for adventure can take a flight in a 1930s biplane. Ottawa Aviation Adventures offers flights over Parliament, the Ottawa River, and the Gatineau hills.
Naturally, we recommend the flight over Gatineau as it is the best time to see the leaves change. The flights aren’t particularly long, with flights ranging from 10 to 35 minutes. Despite the short airtime, the views can’t be found anywhere else, making this a unique experience not to be missed.
