We all try our best to keep our apartments clean and fresh, but everyone has faced a hard-to-reach place that they believe they will never get clean. Here are some tips to overcoming any cleaning headaches that may come your way:
Ceiling fans are not only hard to reach, but also consist of a number of tiny spaces that can collect dust and spread it over the entire room. Vacuums with long attachments and extendable hand dusters are often the easiest ways to access these areas but may not be the most effective. Grab any stool or ladder you may have, find yourself a spotter (safety first) and use a microfiber cloth; or even slip a pillowcase onto one blade at a time, wipe off the dust, and trap it inside as you remove it.
Bonus Tip: It’s best to start high and work your way down because dust and dirt will become dislodged as you clean and make their way downward.
Dust and grease particles can build up on and behind your cabinets over time, making them difficult to clean. Instead of using a dry cloth or duster, opt for a grease fighting dish soap and a damp sponge.
Bonus Tip: For extra tough areas, try mixing dish soap, ammonia and warm water.
Kitchen appliances such as the stove, fridge and dishwasher attract grease and debris, while the washer and dryer collect dust and dryer lint. To ensure that these areas are sanitary and fire hazard free, appliances should be moved and cleaned behind with every season. Start by clearing physical debris with a broom or vacuum then using surface cleaners and warm water to eliminate any grime.
Bonus Tip: Remember to clean any cleaning tools. We drop dishcloths and dish towels into the washing machine but often leave the dust in the broom, or forget to wipe out the bucket and clean the mop.
Picture this - you are in your living room across from your couch, when all of a sudden the sun shines through the window and exposes the horror beneath it. This doesn’t have to be the case. To eliminate dust, allergens, dirt, spilled liquids, small toys, and even clothing items that can build up beneath your furniture, make moving it and deep cleaning the floors a priority on your chore list.
For this hard-to-reach area, your best bet is to throw on some old clothes and get down on your hands and knees. Start by using a hard bristled brush or the crevice tool on the vacuum to remove and hair, dust or dirt that may have found its way there. Next, use disinfecting cleaner and a damp sponge or cloth to wipe down the surfaces.
Bonus Tip: Use a Q-Tip or old tooth brush dipped in cleaner to wipe away build-up from small cracks and crevices.
Cleaning your apartment can be challenging at times but we know that you can do it! Implement these tricks and even those hard-to-reach places will sparkle and shine.
